On the desktop, depending on your hardware, you will have to configure the proper IR support software for your machine. The examples which follow here will explain how I did it for my IBM Thinkpad T23 running Linux. There are three kinds of IrDA standards: MIR, FIR and SIR. SIR is speed-limited to 115200 bps (bit-per-second). FIR and MIR on the other hand, support 4Mbps (megabit-per-second) speeds.
